The 1967 model year
Overview
The 1967 Charger was the second and final year of Dodge's original fastback body. Its standard engine changed to the lighter LA-series 318, while the optional range expanded to two 383s, the new 375-hp 440 Magnum, and the 425-hp 426 Street Hemi. The full-length rear console was removed, and Dodge added front-fender turn-signal indicators and an available vinyl roof.

Year over year
What changed
- The LA-series 318 became the standard engine, 60 pounds lighter than the previous polyspherical 318.
- A 270-hp 383 two-barrel and the 375-hp 440 Magnum joined the powertrain range.
- Front-fender turn-signal indicators and an optional vinyl roof distinguished the final fastback model year.
- The full-length rear console was removed, allowing an optional front center armrest/seat arrangement.
Worth knowing
Notable
- This was the last model year for the original fastback Charger body before the 1968 Coke-bottle redesign.
- The 440 Magnum made its Charger debut with a factory rating of 375 gross horsepower.
- Dodge's catalog offered five distinct engines, from the standard 318 two-barrel through the dual-four-barrel 426 Street Hemi.
Living with it
Reliability & ownership notes
- The five engines use materially different carburetion, cooling, exhaust, and ignition parts; the VIN, fender tag, casting numbers, and transmission must be decoded before ordering restoration components.
- Rust and prior collision repair around the fastback roof, rear quarters, torsion-bar crossmember, and hidden-headlamp structure matter more than cosmetic condition.
- High-value 440 and Hemi claims require factory-document and drivetrain-number verification because later engine swaps are common.
