The YJ (1987–1995) is the first Jeep Wrangler, replacing the CJ-7. It carried over the CJ's body-on-frame, solid-axle, leaf-spring layout but added a wider track, a lower center of gravity, and more comfort and safety. Its instantly recognizable signature is the square (rectangular) headlamps — the only Wrangler generation ever fitted with them, which makes the YJ the easiest Wrangler to spot.
