Ford Mustang "Terminator" SVT Cobra

2003–2004

The 2003–2004 SVT Cobra — nicknamed the "Terminator" — was the supercharged send-off for the fourth-generation Mustang and the most powerful factory Mustang to date when it launched. Ford's Special Vehicle Team took the New Edge Cobra and added an Eaton supercharger to the 4.6 DOHC modular V8, an iron block, and a forged rotating assembly, backed by a Tremec T-56 six-speed and an independent rear suspension. The combination — strong bottom end, easy boost, and a chassis that could take it — made the Terminator an instant tuner legend that still anchors the modern fourth-gen Mustang. Horsepower is SAE net.

Collectibility

The supercharged 2003–2004 "Terminator" Cobra is the most coveted modern fourth-generation Mustang and a blue-chip tuner car — its strong, forged bottom end is exactly why so many were modified, which makes unmolested, low-mileage, documented examples increasingly prized. The supercharger and intercooler add maintenance items worth checking, and the Cobra's independent rear suspension is a buying checkpoint. Values are qualitative here by design.

Years Engine HP Production Notable
2003–2004 4.6 DOHC supercharged V8 (Eaton blower; iron block, forged internals) 390 ~19,140 total (2003–2004 combined)
  • Most powerful factory Mustang to date at its launch.
  • Eaton supercharger, iron block, forged rotating assembly, Tremec T-56 six-speed, independent rear suspension.
  • A favorite tuner platform — the bottom end takes far more than 390 hp.
  • 2004 was the final year of the fourth generation and the Mustang's 40th anniversary.

2003–2004

The Terminator's entire run. The supercharged 4.6 DOHC made a factory-rated 390 hp — widely beaten in the real world — with an iron block and forged internals that made it nearly bulletproof under boost. It used a Tremec T-56 six-speed and the Cobra's independent rear suspension. The 2004 car added an available 40th Anniversary package (it was the Mustang's 40th year) and continued unchanged before the retro S197 arrived for 2005.
